2026 Independence Day Celebration at Parkway Marina
Hosted by Saunders Volunteer Fire Company
Since 1991, Parkway Marina has proudly hosted one of Smith Mountain Lake’s most anticipated summer traditions: the Independence Day Fireworks Celebration. Originally organized and funded solely by Parkway Marina as a gesture of appreciation to its patrons and neighbors, the event quickly grew into a cherished community gathering.
By 2001, with the event’s continued growth, the Saunders Volunteer Fire Company (SVFC) stepped in to provide the planning, staffing, and leadership needed to sustain and enhance the celebration. Since then, the event has served as SVFC’s largest annual fundraiser, combining patriotism, community spirit, and summer fun—all while supporting local emergency services and nonprofit organizations.

A Celebration With Purpose
All proceeds from admission, parking, and sponsorships go directly to support the Saunders Volunteer Fire Company and other local nonprofits that help make this event possible. Your attendance helps ensure continued fire protection and emergency services for our community.
Each year, the celebration closes with a moment of silence followed by a special fireworks salute in memory of the event’s founder and in honor of those who serve and protect our country and community.
Watching from Afar?
If you plan to watch from outside Parkway Marina, we encourage you to consider making a donation to support SVFC and this community tradition.
If you're a business hosting viewers, sponsorship opportunities are available and greatly appreciated.
Boating to the Show?
The Smith Mountain Lake Water Safety Council requests that all watercraft operate at “no wake” speeds in the area between Parkway Marina, Bernard’s Landing, Vista Point, and Craddock Creek beginning at 8:30 PM to ensure safety on the water.
We look forward to seeing you on The Point at Parkway Marina for a celebration of freedom, fireworks, and community pride!
